Jesus came so that he could fulfil the prophetic words as spoken about the great deliverer who would come. Having arrived as a
vulnerable infant, Jesus grew up in turmoil and uncertainty so that one day he could die for the sin of humanity. At the time of Jesus’ birth the enemy was after him. Like Moses at his birth, an edict was sent out to destroy him, but he found refuge in Egypt and returned after a while to grow up as a tender plant in the arid land of Nazareth. His sole purpose was to fulfil this pronouncement: “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified (Isaiah 61:1-3).” Although the whole world has become blinded by commercialism, Jesus is still binding up broken hearts and setting captives free. So if you are feeling overwhelmed by all the hype and the festivities, remember that Jesus is still available to bring comfort, peace and joy to your heart. Read Isaiah 61 & Luke 4:18&19.
