Tell me lies tell me sweet little lies – Fleetwood Mac
While truth telling is cathartic, that is it brings healing and peace to troubled souls. Lies provide a pathway of least resistance to those who chose to travel down that path. In essence, lies are the easy way out. However, there is a catch. Telling the first lie proves to be rather difficult, but from then on in, the road towards a mature wholesome relationship with the devil, the father of lies is like a toboggan ride, downhill all the way and gathering speed.
Take a look at how lies have influenced the whole of humanity from the lowly and obscure to the great and the good. In the recent general election in the UK, the Conservative leader, David Cameron lambasted the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg and even called him ‘the biggest joke of the election.’ However, less than a week later, they were both standing on the lawn behind Downing Street declaring how wonderful each other was and that they had made an agreement to work to together for the next 5 years.
Lies are the antithesis to what God require. Scripture states that God requires truth in the inwards parts (Psalm 51.6) and the plea of the Psalmist is to be taught wisdom in his heart. Henceforth, the sweet sweetness of lies loses their taste as truth prevails.
Today read Job 14 and put things in perspective.
